Xiao Guin was a gift from my brother and Fatso (the only Penguin that can flap its wings, others are sew on) was adopted from a night market. Over time, they have also developed their own character. Nicole's Dolly Polly!

Real name or Nickname: Nicole

Age: 22

Location: East Singapore

My chowchow is called: Polly

My chowchow is a...: rag doll with a removable frock. The bonnet and shoes are sewn on though.

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 15!

History of my chowchow: From what my mama tells me, Polly was a gift from her colleague.
Back then, I already had a chowchow - a small pillow in a cute blue cover with cat prints that my grandmama handmade - so Polly used Pillow as her, well, pillow.

They were my nighttime companions til one day I came home from school and Polly was not in her usual place, propped up against Pillow. My heart, I remember, turned cold. I ran to my mama, knowing she had a hand in Polly's disappearance. It turned out she had thrown her away. I threw a real nasty tantrum with the waterworks in full swing. I guess my mama expected that and she hastily dug Polly up from somewhere. She had wanted to test me, to see if I would notice if Polly was gone. -______-

A few years later though, when it was time to shift, my mama issued me an ultimatum, to either get rid of Pillow or Polly. After much heartache, I had to part with Pillow.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: That was subject to my mama's whims and fancy. But ever since I developed a sensitive nose, the moment I start sneezing, it was time for a bath. Her cotton's become so lumpy.

My family's relationship with my chowchow: For now, it's all quite civil. Since she's in a box and all.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: I grew up and got a boyfriend. And he bought me a pink plush bunny, which co-existed alongside Polly rather well. He had to go and get me a bigger version of aforementioned bunny and well, my bed isn't big enough for the three of them. I have relegated Polly to a clear Ikea box in the wardrobe. It spares her from baths too.
I am taking her out once I shift this month when I finally have my own room!

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: I used to be a very emo kid, (still am) and she would be there for me everytime. Now, I take her with me whenever I travel, as if I'm repaying her for all those years she was stuck with me.

Age: 28

Location: Toa Payoh

My chowchow is called: Natasha

My chowchow is a...: pink monster from sesame street

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 14

History of my chowchow: It was love at first sight for me when I saw her at a Daimaru Roadshow in Plaza Singapura. She was with the rest of the natashas but she just stood out among them. I had no cash in my wallet, being a poor student, so my friend went to withdraw money and bought her for me. She was fully mine after I returned her the cash. She went on a lot of overseas trips with me. China, Perth, Melbourne, Port Dickson, Berlin, Batam, Macau, Hanoi etc. She was too precious to be checked into the luggage. She went to church camps with me as well. In fact, she's such a frequent visitor that people think she's part of the church. However, some evil friends of mine always try to kidnap her for the pleasure of seeing me in lovesick misery. I even wrote a poem for her when she was kidnapped once to entice the evildoer to return her to me. I look out for things to buy for her as well; Shoes, tee-shirts, souvenirs etc.

The poem that was sent via SMS to Nat's torturer
Night has fallen
Poignant memories of her kept flooding into my mind
My heart aches as I think about this question
Where is Natasha?!?!?!

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Hmm... 6 months back? Involuntary bath without my knowledge... My mom juz dumped all e chowchows into the washing machine while i was at work.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: My bed partner is another chowchow named Hobo. He's absolutely fine with her. In fact he's Nat's older brother.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: She never fails to greet me with a smile the first thing in the morning when I wake up w/ bad breath, and kiss me at e end of a long hard day.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Hmmm~ Cant quite remember.. Maybe a year??

My family's relationship with my chowchow: They are immuned to it. Even my relatives and friends know about her existence. But I guess my dogs still dun quite like her..

JL's Schooled Soaring Parrot!

Real name or Nickname: JL

Age: 24

Location: Singapore

My chowchow is called: Parrot

My chowchow is a...: Soft toy parrot resembling a military macaw due to its overall green appearance.

Number of chowchow years it has lived: Since 1996, about 13 years

History of my chowchow: It belonged to my much younger cousins. My granny would bring me along to visit my grandaunt's place quite often (as we lived in adjacent blocks). Though my cousins had many toys, I have always liked this soft toy parrot. I cannot understand why but it just stood out from the rest. Whenever I went, I would look for it.

One day, I heard they were discarding the old toys and to my delight, the parrot was one of them. I picked it up and brought it home. As they say, the rest is history.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Just before Chinese New Year (CNY). It is almost a tradition that it showers twice a year. The first will be just before CNY and the second will depend how hard I pester my mum to wash her.

My family's relationship with my chowchow:
At first, they think I am crazy as I personified Parrot. I would imagine it goes to school like normal children. After running out of ideas where it went, from primary to secondary school, I have decided that it goes to a 'bird' school where it learns life skills to prepare for adulthood just like human beings.

After awhile, they are fine with it. Occasionally, my family plays along with me and it was great fun. I believe it's a way of exploring our creativity just like in cartoons. In cartoons, anything and everything is possible!

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: N.A.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: She reminds me of my childhood. Whenever I am down, looking at her lifts my spirits up. She is nice to have at my bedside.

Dodo's Handsome Bear Bear!

Real name or Nickname: Dodo

Age: 21

Location: Singapore, Redhill

My chowchow is called: Handsome bear bear

My chowchow is a...: 1998 Enesco, Cherished Teddies bear bear, bought from Precious Thots. It costs $9.90 then, but now it is appreciated by me and it costs $9,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999.90.

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 7 years

History of my chowchow: Previously, I had the same bear bear given to me by my tutor when I was in primary school. However, as I didn't concentrate in my studies, my mama threw the bear bear away. Hence, When I was in Sec1, I went to purchase the similar bear bear and felt that my previous bear has revived! Currently, my bear bear has many stitches as my papa likes snatch away my bear bear from me! Sometimes, in order to spike me, my papa would hang my bear bear onto the ceiling fan. Anyway, that's a good way to spike me.

From the day I bought my first bear bear, I began to buy more of the similar bears. However, after a while, Precious Thots stopped selling this kind of bear bear and my collection has stopped. =(

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: During the last Chinese New Year. He will be bathed every 6 months. I just love his smell!

My family's relationship with my chowchow: He is my husband, my boyfriend, my brother and my bestie!

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: Hugging and partner. I cannot sleep without him.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: He is very adorable although others may not think so. Handsome bear bear always listen to my laughter, sayang me when I'm sad, my source of comfort and motivation in my life!

Real name or Nickname: Matty

Age: 24+

Location: Singapore

My chowchow is called: Patpat

My chowchow is a...: my chowchow is a pillow with a member of the PEANUTS comic on it. Its "Peppermint Patty"

Number of chowchow years it has lived: At least 12 years or more.

History of my chowchow: I can't remember the age I got Patpat, but my brother got a "Linus" because his name is Linus, and I chose Peppermint Patty because she resembles me.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Patpat had a bath last year, which is the 2nd time i bathed her since I first got her. This time I put her in the washing machine with a clothing net. Because of her age, all the cotton inside her got twisted around and she looked like she had knots in her. I cried because of the state she was in!!

My family's relationship with my chowchow: They have come to terms with the fact that I must carry her when I go for holidays, and how dirty she has been because her white 'background' has changed colour over the years! and the way she travels with me, which is either in my backpack, or she sits on top of all my clothes in the luggage. HAHA! I always make sure that she has something underneath her, so my clothes wont smell like her! My family has grown immune to it already. :P

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: NA.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: I love my chowchow to bits because she is always there! Giving me comfort. Helping me sleep so well when I am sick! She's always there when I cry. Dr_J's Stinky Pilly! Pillows can have Jetlag too!

Real name or Nickname: Dr_J

Age: 35

Location: Clementi

My chowchow is called: Stinky Pilly

My chowchow is a...: very small Pillow with hardly any cushioning effect.

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 20+ years

History of my chowchow: It's probably the third generation. In its early beginnings, it was plump with cotton but now it's quite flat. I usually take it along when I am travelling overseas since I often have trouble sleeping on unfamiliar beds although I don't like the fact that it smells weirder when it is kept in the suitcase. It also takes time for the old familiar smell to re-manifest again. A case of pillow jetlag, I think. [ED: LOL! Learning a new term everyday]

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: My mother takes it out for a sunbath every few days when I am not at home. Every couple of weeks, the pillow case gets washed. It smells the best when there is a balance between no smell and too smelly. Yes, even I myself will take it out for a sunbath when it gets too stinky.

I would love to do a post-mortem of Stinky one day to see what kind of creatures live in the cotton---but only when the other standby, nameless pillow has been successfully seasoned.

My family's relationship with my chowchow: On and off, my mother will try to talk me into giving it up. She keeps saying it's unhygienic. I think it's relative.

For a while in the past, my mother would secretly chuck it into the waste basket in my room when I was not at home. But she probably anticipated the severe reaction from me as she didn't chuck it down the refuse chute. I managed to rescue it intact from the waste basket a few times. Paranoid, I would immediately check whether Stinky was still around as soon as I stepped into the house. Both Stinky and I were traumatised for a while. But those days are over. I hope.

There is another pillow on my bed which is supposed to replace the current. But it has been seasoning there for a few years without any luck in acquiring that familiar smell.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: It's not to be shared. I don't want it contaminated.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: It has absorbed my smell/pheromones. It helps me, a light sleeper, to sleep.

Jan's PingPing pillow chowchow!

Real name or Nickname: Jan

Age: 24

Location: Singapore

My chowchow is called: PingPing

My chowchow is a...: Medium sized pillow.

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 17 years (3 generation)

History of my chowchow: This current Pingping is my third one(she's wearing new clothes in this pic). The first 2 had passed away badly injured. Must have squeezed them too hard when I slept.
I named her PingPing because the first one I had, her 'flesh' is Pink in colour. I thought pink and ping sounds the same, and from that day she was born.
Bought the 2nd one to replace the death of the 1st, and the 3rd one to replace the 2nd. I hate to part with the previous ones, but I guess the holes on them is just too disturbing to keep them around. Nevertheless, when I threw them away, I'll always put the new one with the old, to absorb whatever goodness they have before letting go.
And I would rather not put night creams when I sleep, just because I don't want to stain PingPing and affect her smell!

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Never bathed, never suntanned. Defeats the purpose isn't it? Haha!

My family's relationship with my chowchow: They try not to offend each other!
Even my dog doesn't like to smell her.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: Everytime I sniff my PingPing and hug her tight, he'll always say I look like I'm taking drugs, or sniffing glue. I had this 'high' face everytime I sniff her I guess. He describes her smell as some herbal medicine, which I obviously don't agree.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: PingPing had been with me for a long time. All 3 of them went through tough times with me, especially during my frivolous days, where Pingping would see new guys every other month. At the end of each so called relationship, PingPing is always there for me. As i cried bitterly, she will absorb my tears, and at the same time taking away the unhappiness. When all the guys would come and go, PingPing is always there for me.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: My bed partners are my pillow and bolster, well, they get alone fine with my chowchow as they understand that my chowchow is king.

We have re-labeled the posts so you can use the labels on the right to search for chowchows by location or age. Any inconvenience is regretted and we look forward to hearing from you if there are any work-around solutions.

Please share this website with your friends and the chowchow team will be working hard to post them up asap!

SA's Bunny! - [ED: last sentence really pulled at my heartstrings]

Real name or Nickname: SA

Age: 21

Location: Melbourne

My chowchow is called: Chao Chao Bunny (#2)

My chowchow is a...: bunny stuff toy

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 16

History of my chowchow: 1988 - Age 1, I received chao chao bunny #1 for my birthday and immediately became my favourite toy.
1992 - Mum couldn't stand the tattered bunny it had become that was both smelly and to her 'unsightly', she threw it away
1992 - I was so distraught and visibly missing my chao chao that Mum felt so bad that she went back to the store Chao Chao #1 was originally was bought from (Metro) to buy a new one for me. She couldn't find the exact one - but we did find one that was similar.
So that's how Chao Chao bunny #2 entered my life.

Since then - she's gone on holidays and travels back and forth from Singapore - Melbourne.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: 6 years ago (too many holes now, she won't survive a bath)

My family's relationship with my chowchow: The victim of my brothers and my cousins of endless threats of rabbitnapping and other acts of torture (hanging her with a taekwando belt)

And constant threat from my Mum, who thinks it's time for her to go (she's thought it's time for 8 years now)

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: No bed partner but in hostel, my roommate abused the poor thing by covering her whole surface areas with clothes pegs

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: The very smelly, lumpy and torn remains of my beloved chao chao has been with me through everything significant since I was 5.
She's celebrated every victory and absorbed (literally) every failure. [ED: LOL ouch...]
Right now she's in a very critical state but I'll always love chao chao just the way she loved me when i felt unloved.

[ED: The last sentence of this submission is, to me, the most emotional I have read thus far.]

History of my chowchow: Tink Tink is my husband's childhood pillow.  He can't live without it.  He has to sleep with him every night, even on overseas trip.  Initially, I can't imagine how a big grown up man like my hubby can have such a kiddy habit.  I have grown to like Tink Tink over the years.  He is part of our family now and we treat him like our precious son.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: I change his clothes once a week and my hubby always sunbath him on hot days.  This keeps Tink Tink healthy and clean.  But the hubby smell is always gone after the sunbath.

My family's relationship with my chowchow: Everybody loves him, though only my hubby and I like to smell him.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: Very good.  He sleeps in between us. Of course, there were occasions where he rolled over the bed and landed on the floor.  Naughty Tink Tink.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: He smells just like my hubby.

History of my chowchow: chowchow has been with me since i was born. it was handmade by my mom and meant to help me fall asleep easier. often put on the baby's body to avoid the baby from being awoken by loud noises. and when i was younger i often had bad dreams so the amulet from the temple was safety-pinned onto it to make me have sweet dreams through the night!

milk was a gift from dad when he went overseas. serves as an extra bolster or a head rest when i need to prop my head up and think about things.

My family's relationship with my chowchow: it's an open secret and i get teased about it 'cos i'm the only one with it! i think they're jealous.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: it makes me feel better when i'm feeling down. somehow i imagine all my negative emotions being transferred into them and them disappearing the next day. Definitely trustworthy companions to keep me warm and when i need someone to hug! ;)
