My chowchow is a...: Sheep.. hehe :)

Number of chowchow years it has lived: mek mek is a little lamb.. only 4 months old :)

History (and stories) of my chowchow
: I was in a shopping frenzy, rushing to buy last minute Valentine's Present for my bestie. After rushing through all the stores in the mall, I could not find anything that I liked. When I was on the verge of giving up, I suddenly laid eyes on the cutest ever sheep sitting on the shelves  with his other fellow friends. He has this cheeky grin on his face that I could not resist but to buy. My friend changed his gender from a male to a female.

I wanted him back! But who knows.. two months later, and a confession... I received MekkMekk as a surprise after a dinner date. Though it's a replica, mine is so much CUTER!

After a month though.. MekkMekk developed a tear at the side of his belly.. and it's still torn. Never found the time to sew it back! Haha..

So, there's actually two chowchows, two MekkMekks and two owners.. hehe..

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: MekkMekk is still as white as snow.. and smells reaaaally good.. no need a bath yet. =)

K bought him and i carried him all round the mall, back to Singapore..and he never leaves my bed...

His tor-chai (belly button) came off and my mommy had to sew it back on :(

Hippo goes with me everywhere i go..(except for my recent trip, he was too large for the luggage bag). i take pictures of him and his cute goofy face is on my mobile phone screen..

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: hippo is my bed partner! :)

Ping Teo's Humpty & hubby's Grem!

Real name or Nickname: Ping Teo

Age: 32

Gender: Female

Location: Singapore

My chowchow is called: Humpty

My chowchow is a...: Egg-shaped pillow

Number of chowchow years it has lived: At least 27

History (and stories) of my chowchow:
My mum's sister-in-law is a seamstress. She used to make me dresses when I was young, and made this pillow for me. I thought the idea of a Humpty Dumpty was quite clever!

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?:
The inner pillow had been thrown away by my mum years ago, cos it was too brownish and gross. I salvaged the 'skin' and finally sewed a new 'body' for it last year.

My family's relationship with my chowchow:
They generally left it alone, except mum, who's the hygiene inspector ;)

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow:
Hubby has his own chowchow, Grem, who's in the the photo with Humpty. I think Humpty has finally found a mate! Though Grem is grosser than her because he still has his brownish body from Hubby's childhood.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…:
It is just the correct shape to prop up my head or back when sleeping. And she has limbs!!!!

Rachel's Maxxxxiiiieeee!

Real name or Nickname: Rachel

Age: 26

Gender: Female

Location: Singapore

My chowchow is called: Max/Max boy/Maxxxxiiieeeee

My chowchow is a...: Elephant. Actually Max has a companion stuck to his foot, and she's a mouse called Millie. But Millie is so tiny nobody really cares for her (including me and Max of course - that big bully).

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 3

History (and stories) of my chowchow: I saw Max sitting on a shelf in a bookshop (of all places!) but I had left without bringing him home that day. I was convinced that someone my age shouldn't be indulging in toys anymore. But as I found myself drawn back to that bookshop everyday after I walked away that first time, I knew then it was about time I took Max home.

That very same day I took Max off the shelves, me and him and a friend took off to Alleybar. Obviously Max's not much of a drinker (I wonder then where he gets his fat belly from) so he was just chilling being adored by everyone.

Max travels with me, watches tele with me, keeps me warm on the cold nights, watches me bash buttons on the Xbox, reads with me, snores with me, drools with me. Most importantly he's faithfully kept by my side when I was recovering from my heart surgery (apart from the nurses tearing him away from me!!).

We have laughed together, cried together, and obviously slept together. I ask him if he's been a good boy sometimes and he'll nod to everything I say but that cheeky smile on his face gives it all away - he takes every chance he gets to bully Millie! I may not care much for Millie but I suppose I care enough for her to stay alive. [ed: LOL!]

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Hmm... that was sometime in January.

My family's relationship with my chowchow: My mom wants to kidnap Max all to herself. She talks to him sometimes but she calls him 'Elephant' and pulls his ears. Guess Max don't like that too much. My friends look at me with  strange eyes when I go on about Max but I know they love him too!

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: He has such a big belly and floppy ears. Sometimes when I'm upset his ears flop down in such a way that he looks sad too. He's been through so much with me and I think he's only starting to warm to the idea of going for swims (in the washing machine) because he knows he comes out all fluffed (which lasts about a day). I call it swimming and sunbathing; I think he calls it hell.

He's my tough little one with his big belly, bigger ears and the biggest heart (that is when he's not flinging poor Millie around)!

SH's Cui Chang Fang!

Real name or Nickname: SH

Age: 24

Gender: Female

Location: Singapore

My chowchow is called: CuiCui, ChangChang, FangFang (I even have a tune for their names.)

My chowchow is a...:
Darling. Sweetheart. Germs Collector. Most of all, my sleeping pill. OK lah, they WERE my pillow and bolster when I was wee.

Number of chowchow years it has lived:
24 years old

History (and stories) of my chowchow:
1. They were ninjas
I made sure they remained incognito when I went overseas or for a sleepover at my friends'. "Hide them, before your mum finds them and bin them" was the mantra.

2. They were precious.
I covered them with the blanket when I was younger because I was afraid they would get cold. I was cold.

3. They are never lost.
In the dark of the night, if I wake up and they're not there, I'll fight sleepyness and fear just to pull out my bed and rescue them from the monsters underneath my bed.

4. They travelled with me on hand luggage.
I've brought them overseas when they were younger. Always hand carry them. Never check them in.

5. I understand their brevity.
I did not dare to smell them too much because I was afraid they will lose their smell.

I'm a sane, logical lady, by the way.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Erm.

My family's relationship with my chowchow:
They've accepted them. Though I hate to say it, they're ashamed of them. Hidden from public's eye during festivities.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow:
What bed partner? They ARE my bed partners.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: They love me.

Ahweed's Mao Mao chowchow!

Real name or Nickname: Ahweed

Age: 30

Gender: Female

Location: Singapore

My chowchow is called: Mao Mao  aka "Money"

My chowchow is a...: Bear...the most kissable bear

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 3 years

History (and stories) of my chowchow: Mao Mao is a gift, given by a bunch of friends during the lowest peak of my life. Didn't know that he has become the greatest joy of my life! Never much a fan in talking to soft toys but Mao Mao is different. We quarrel all the time, get into fights and argue like nobody business. But... he is always the first to give in because Mao Mao always professes his love for me daily! He starts and ends my day with his generous hugs, kisses and 'I lup you'. Most importantly, he smells great. ( But he needs to brew that kinda smell you knoe.)

Oh ya...he wants to tell the world that he is the most popular bear in the world who hates to study, but loves to sleep, flirt with pretty babes, change new clothes weekly, dance and rap. He enjoys travelling and destinations covered to date...Vietnam (even to the mountains, Taiwan, Hokkaido, KL,  Cameron Highlight, JB and Hong Kong. His loves of his life are his buddy, Bian Bian, Snoozy JieJie, Nabei Jie Jie [ED: WHAT?!?] and his own chow chow... Twinky.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Never...almost went for a dry cleaning after hurtful remarks made by the public that he is dirtier by the days. Think..he will never get to bathe lah.

My family's relationship with my chowchow: Mummy talks to him and she is his fashion critic. PaPa treats him invisible, but with due respect. Ruby, my dog, sleeps on his big, flabby tummy. Snoozy Jie Jie bites his nose, sleeps on him, punch him at times and loves him very much too.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: He is my one and only. (Although he can be quite irritating and noisy before bedtime. ) Oh...we share blanket and pillow..but he got rolled down the bed at times.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: he is one of a kind...we know our thoughts and we can feel our emotions. Although he is cuddly, but he is the strongest pillar I ever have. I shall prcfess my love for my flirtatious bear..." YOU ARE MY ONE AND ONLY LUP TOO!!! TO DEATH TILL US PART!!! YO YO!!!"

Electronic chowchow?

Here is an idea for chowchow lovers! Maybe you can make him/her electronic! After seeing this prototype, can't help but post it! Enjoy!

Snoozy's "one of a kind" Bianbian!

Real name or Nickname: Snoozy

Age: 28

Gender: Female

Location: Singapore

My chowchow is called: Bianbian aka Benny

My chowchow is a...: bear

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 17 and counting

History (and stories) of my chowchow: Bianbian belonged to my brother initially but due negligence, I adopted him and from then on, he's my bear. However, he's still very loyal to his first owner... He has studied with me for my PSLE, O-levels, A-levels and degree so he's quite a knowledgable bear. He would like to take the examinations if given a chance... Due to his appearance, he's always taunted by others, leading to his inferior complexity. After some encouragement from a friend, Bianbian has opened up... built his confidence and even travels to my workplace daily to watch me at work. He goes on tours too... To-date, he has been to Vietnam, Hokkaido, Taiwan, K.L, Cameron Highlands and JB. His next stop will be Hong Kong! :)

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Never... but he's taken for sunbathing at times by my mother... rather forcefully...

My family's relationship with my chowchow: Err... my brother talks to him and holds his hand when he's in a good mood... my mother can't wait to murder him (put him in the washing machine). My bunny ignores him...

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: Bianbian knows me very well... we have telepathy. His hands are used to wipe my tears. He is the only one in the whole world who can stands my nonsensical behaviour and fiery temper. Of course, I love him best for his UNIQUE smell... one of a kind in the world.

Victoria's Bearny has its own chowchow!

Real name or Nickname: Victoria

Age: 20s

Gender: Female

Location: Singapore

My chowchow is called: Bearny or Teddy or Ah Bear (left) (right is Tigger, Bearny's chow chow)

My chowchow is a...: teddy bear that I got from a MacDonald's Happy Meal pack when I attended a cousin's birthday party years ago.

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 17 years

History (and stories) of my chowchow: It was my mum who asked me to keep the bear because she said it was very cute. At first, I thought it was so childish to keep a teddy bear but hey hey...Bearny is no ordinary teddy bear! He's a very cute, intelligent and sensible bear-person :) Check out his incredible charming smile!

Bearny enjoys watching TV and seeing the whole family tuck into meals. He is also very friendly and warm and enjoys giving everyone hugs and kisses but unfortunately, not everyone is willing to be kissed by him.

When I became increasingly busy with work and other commitments, I gave Bearny his own chowchow too- Tigger and he loves Tigger very much too and will always shower him with kisses and hugs.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Last Dec because my husband wanted him to be cleaner. Bearny hates to be bathed because he hates the water. In fact, whenever my mum wants to bathe him, he will mysteriously disappear until he's reassured that he's not going to be showered.

Actually, I prefer Bearny's own natural scent. I think he smells heavenly :)

My family's relationship with my chowchow: My family accepts Bearny wholeheartedly. They know he will always be there watching tv with them and even now that I'm married, I still bring Bearny home to visit my parents and they are happy to see him (but not smell him). My nephew (2 year old) gets very excited when he sees Bearny but I think I will not let him touch Bearny for now till he's older because during the last encounter, he(nephew) almost ripped off his (Bearny's) ears and paw. I panicked!

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: My husband has a love-hate relationship with Bearny. He has implemented a ruling system whereby Bearny is not supposed to be within 20cm near his face because he has a sensitive nose. But at the same time, he does sayang Bearny by patting his head or stroking his face when he's very obedient or says nice things like "Good night", etc.

Sometimes when we have arguments, Bearny is the one who mediates and we always end our squabbles very peacefully :)

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: Bearny is my very best friend (apart from my husband). He's my constant companion and has been to every other country that I've been to. The fact that he's rather small in built allows me to take him almost everywhere. Everytime I get on board an aircraft, I will always take him out (he's crazy about planes!) and no one will know cos it's our little secret :)

Rachel's handmade chowchow

Real name or Nickname: Rachel

Age:
22

Gender: Female

Location:
Singapore

My chowchow is called:
chowchow/smellysmelly

My chowchow is a...:
bolster!

Number of chowchow years it has lived:
12

History (and stories) of my chowchow:
My first chowchow was a small pillow that I carried everywhere which my grandmother made for me. When I was 10yrs old, my godma became so fedup with me carrying a smelly and disgusting rag, she threw it away while we were on a family trip. I was so upset that I cried the whole trip home.

I couldn't get over it, my grandmother made me my second and current chowchow which is a bolster. It has been with me through secondary school, through university overseas and even now that I'm working, it is still with me :D

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?:
A few years back. That time when it had a bath, I couldn't sleep without it! But as the cotton inside it was wet, I had to make do with it draped over a chair with a fan blowing at it to dry it at a faster speed. Intervals in the night I would wake up, touch my chowchow to assure myself it is there before falling asleep again.

My family's relationship with my chowchow:
My mother thinks its ridiculous @ 22 and makes comments when I sit at the computer with it draped over my shoulder! They are immune to the fact I have a chowchow. In fact, my brother has one so he can't make fun of me. Heh.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow:
My dog is perfectly fine sharing both me and my bedspace with my chowchow!

Finally, I love my chowchow because…:
it was specially and lovingly made for me by my grandmother. It holds my smell, my tears, my complaints, my crushes, my thoughts, my pain and my happiness. Sometimes when I hug it, I think of my grandma and I miss her so much. It has been many years since she's left this world, but I know that she will always be with me.

Chowchow still sleeps draped over my chest every night without fail and it will have that special place for years to come.

M's "hand-me-down" Smelly Dog!

Real name or Nickname: M

Gender: Female

Location: Istanbul

My chowchow is called: smelly dog

My chowchow is a...: dog stuffed with beans

Number of chowchow years it has lived: (Since) 1978

History (and stories) of my chowchow: Used to be my mother's and she claims she bought it at the Oriental Emporium at Raffles Place which burned down (this is unverifiable info!), she gave it to me after I was born and couldn't stop crying. It's been with me ever since and goes with me everywhere.

In fact, I'm on exchange now and I brought it along.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Erm wellll... good question!
My family's relationship with my chowchow: My dad always pretends it is his and fights with me for it. My mother told me about this blog and encouraged me to post on it.
I guess that says a lot hahahhaha.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: He's familiar!

Joe's Doggie Pillow - Our second over-30 years chowchow!

Real name or Nickname: Joe

Age: 38

Location: Stone's Throw from Whitley Detention Center

My chowchow is called: Doggie Pillow

My chowchow is a...: Doggie

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 33

History of my chowchow: I've had this soft pillow since I was knee high to a grasshopper. The pale tattered skin that you see on the outside is the "original" that I naturally felt closer to having absorbed my scent. Chow Chow v 2.0 is enclosed in this skin.... Yes, I skinned my Chow Chow.

It still goes with me overseas on business or leisure. No suite is home till Doggie Pillow comes out of the luggage.

[ED: Sadly, incomplete. Do email us and we will add the information on for you!]

Nicole's Dolly Polly!

Real name or Nickname: Nicole

Age: 22

Location: East Singapore

My chowchow is called: Polly

My chowchow is a...: rag doll with a removable frock. The bonnet and shoes are sewn on though.

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 15!

History of my chowchow: From what my mama tells me, Polly was a gift from her colleague.
Back then, I already had a chowchow - a small pillow in a cute blue cover with cat prints that my grandmama handmade - so Polly used Pillow as her, well, pillow.

They were my nighttime companions til one day I came home from school and Polly was not in her usual place, propped up against Pillow. My heart, I remember, turned cold. I ran to my mama, knowing she had a hand in Polly's disappearance. It turned out she had thrown her away. I threw a real nasty tantrum with the waterworks in full swing. I guess my mama expected that and she hastily dug Polly up from somewhere. She had wanted to test me, to see if I would notice if Polly was gone. -______-

A few years later though, when it was time to shift, my mama issued me an ultimatum, to either get rid of Pillow or Polly. After much heartache, I had to part with Pillow.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: That was subject to my mama's whims and fancy. But ever since I developed a sensitive nose, the moment I start sneezing, it was time for a bath. Her cotton's become so lumpy.

My family's relationship with my chowchow: For now, it's all quite civil. Since she's in a box and all.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: I grew up and got a boyfriend. And he bought me a pink plush bunny, which co-existed alongside Polly rather well. He had to go and get me a bigger version of aforementioned bunny and well, my bed isn't big enough for the three of them. I have relegated Polly to a clear Ikea box in the wardrobe. It spares her from baths too.
I am taking her out once I shift this month when I finally have my own room!

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: I used to be a very emo kid, (still am) and she would be there for me everytime. Now, I take her with me whenever I travel, as if I'm repaying her for all those years she was stuck with me.
