WaWa! - Hands down the oldest chowchow thus far.

Real name or Nickname: WaWa best friend

Age: 39

Location: Singapore

My chowchow is called: Initially called MeiMei, now called WaWa by my family

My chowchow is a...: Rare soft toy which till now, never seen a similar one in this world yet

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 39

History of my chowchow: Someone (i could not remember who??) gave it to me since i was born. Had been with me all these long long years. She even stayed with me while i was staying overseas for 4.5yrs. My overseas friends saw it & laugh at me & say it looks like voodoo doll! But i look at her or you guys look at her, the cheerful face she has, will cheer me up or anybody up. She had been through operating table (sewing) few times through the years, but now too fragile to go through another round.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: She is scared of Water, & too fragile to go for a swim, so never had one!! The brown cloth on her had turn to 'leather' through the years! & the special smell that come with it is so unique that no such perfume with this smell ever invented yet.

My family's relationship with my chowchow: My kids know this is papa WaWa, Must handle with Care, & is the Queen of all my family soft toys (about 150s of them roaming the house!) My wife once ask me, she is more important or my WaWa?? Haha, i really do not know the answer. Guess you guys or girls know my answer. I once told my wife, WaWa will never scold me, but she will.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: She (WaWa) is always sleeping next to me & my wife sleep the other side of me. Now she (WaWa) has 2 other friends sleeping next to her (not in photo) namely BearBear & BigFoot (Both given to me by my wife as Birthday present). She accepted WaWa as a family members.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: She is there always with a cheerful smile :-)(I wish she could talk). Make my day. She will be with me as long as i am in this world.

SA's Bunny! - [ED: last sentence really pulled at my heartstrings]

Real name or Nickname: SA

Age: 21

Location: Melbourne

My chowchow is called: Chao Chao Bunny (#2)

My chowchow is a...: bunny stuff toy

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 16

History of my chowchow: 1988 - Age 1, I received chao chao bunny #1 for my birthday and immediately became my favourite toy.
1992 - Mum couldn't stand the tattered bunny it had become that was both smelly and to her 'unsightly', she threw it away
1992 - I was so distraught and visibly missing my chao chao that Mum felt so bad that she went back to the store Chao Chao #1 was originally was bought from (Metro) to buy a new one for me. She couldn't find the exact one - but we did find one that was similar.
So that's how Chao Chao bunny #2 entered my life.

Since then - she's gone on holidays and travels back and forth from Singapore - Melbourne.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: 6 years ago (too many holes now, she won't survive a bath)

My family's relationship with my chowchow: The victim of my brothers and my cousins of endless threats of rabbitnapping and other acts of torture (hanging her with a taekwando belt)

And constant threat from my Mum, who thinks it's time for her to go (she's thought it's time for 8 years now)

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: No bed partner but in hostel, my roommate abused the poor thing by covering her whole surface areas with clothes pegs

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: The very smelly, lumpy and torn remains of my beloved chao chao has been with me through everything significant since I was 5.
She's celebrated every victory and absorbed (literally) every failure. [ED: LOL ouch...]
Right now she's in a very critical state but I'll always love chao chao just the way she loved me when i felt unloved.

[ED: The last sentence of this submission is, to me, the most emotional I have read thus far.]

For 12 years, she alternated the 2 blankets, a pink and a white one, not knowing of the 3rd blanket's existance. They became so ripped-up, and she had to sew it onto another piece of cloth. For years, she asked her mom where exactly did they buy the blankets, and if she might be able to locate the shop. Some chinatown shops, they said. She did went to Chinatown and the baby sections of Shoppingmalls to search. To no avail.

When she was around 12, her mom told her to check with AhMah, her granny, if she still have a third blanket. With Lots of Blessings... she was given the Orange blanket. And a timely discovery, the 2 old ones were too ripped up for use. She packed them in the shoebox and retired them to the back of the closet.

WL's Bean Bean Chowchow!

Real name or Nickname: WL

Age: 21

Location: Melbourne (current location) / Singapore (hometown)

My chowchow is called: Bean (3rd sound) Bean (2nd sound)

My chowchow is a...: Imitation Teddy (Mr Bean's bear)

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 5 years

History of my chowchow: I bought BeanBean at one of those odd fairs that are sometimes held at the Suntec City Convention centre. It was love at first sight, especially since the price tag (S$4!) was screaming out at me.

I've always wanted to own a Mr Bean's bear mostly because it makes me feel like I'm 'closer' to Mr Bean (yea who wasn't a fan of the Channel 5 Mr Bean reruns right...) when we share a mutual love. Hahaha

Unfortunately, BeanBean was kidnapped about a year ago by my baby cousin who came into my room and took ownership of Le Bear. Being 20, it seemed beneath me to be fighting over a bear with someone half my age... so.. au revoir BeanBean.

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: NEVER! Must preserve the natural 'bear smell'.

My family's relationship with my chowchow: Accidentally step on it, kick aside, kinda treatment.

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: Some things you just gotta bear with it...

Sparkling Dazzling XiangXiang

Real name or Nickname: Sparkling Dazzling Chowchow

Age: approx. 3 years

Location: Location is a top secret to all destroyers.

My chowchow is called (if applicable): Xiangxiang.

My chowchow is a...: Blankie

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 3 years

History of my chowchow: This was my second chowchow after my first one was cut up into pieces by my mom and used as a ragged cloth. :'( After knowing the state of my smelly, i went crazy, emotionally unstable and started yelling till my mom threw a small triangular piece of remains that's left of my smelly at me. I kept it until this new one came along. :(
Nevertheless, every smelly is special and unique. So, i love this current one as much as the last one. ;D

My family's relationship with my chowchow: My family hates it. But I secretly loves disturbing them with it, especially my mother. I'd put it near her nose and ask her in a sickly sweet voice "MAMA, XIANG MA??" ;D And she'd flip it away in disgust. It's a secret hobby of mine to see her flip away my smelly. HAHA. I mean, I DON'T GEDDIT? WHY WOULD ANYONE HATE MY SMELLY? IT'S SO NICE!

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: He MUST be able to live with it. No smelly no talk. :D Who knows, he might have one himself too. HA!

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: You can never go to bed without it. Thanks to it, I have no eye bags.

Chewy's bolster chowchow aka "oxygen tank"

Real name or Nickname: chewy

Age: 20

Location: Singapore/Australia

My chowchow is called: my oxygen tank (Courtesy of my favourite brissy friends, Mich Sam and Don.)

My chowchow is a...: magnificent and beautiful looking bolster.

Number of chowchow years it has lived: 20

History of my chowchow: My bolster lives a wonderful life with a happy family, comfy home-made jumper suit and a precious history of drool! Something I've been relying alot on to fall asleep since I was a baby! Lots of sentimental value and smell :)

When was the last time your chowchow had a bath?: Between a period of 6 months to 8 months. I won't want it to disintegrate in the washing machine. Its already nice smelling on its own.

My family's relationship with my chowchow: They absolutely love my bolster! Frequent incidences where my brothers want to throw it away cos they are jealous since they either don't have any as my mom threw it away when he was probably 10, or cos it fell off the window while catching some fresh air.

My mom fights to take care of it by bathing it and keeping it clean, like how she'd bathe a baby. An example of a conversation I'd have with my dad about my bolster: "Daddy, do you think my bao zhen (bolster) has grown taller?"

My bed partner's relationship with my chowchow: My chowchow is my partner, and vice versa. Kenny hates my bolster cos he can't stand up to reality that it is cuter than him.

Finally, I love my chowchow because…: It has been standing by me for the past 20 years, through all the laughter, tears, drool and pee! I can never take my eyes off this gorgeous looking thing.
